250 Years of Exceptional Engineering

The GKN story began with the founding of the Dowlais Iron Co on 19 September 1759 in Dowlais, near Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. Few can have imagined how this small business would develop during the next 250 years.

 

Today GKN has become a global engineering company, headquartered in the UK, with more than 36,000 people working in its companies and joint ventures in more than 30 countries.

 

GKN has a long tradition of world class products and services. GKN’s technology and engineering are at the heart of vehicles and aircraft from the world's leading automotive, off highway and aerospace manufacturers.

 

In September 2009, at a ceremony in London attended by 250 current and former members of staff of GKN, GKN was proud to celebrate its 250th anniversary.
